Let's Talk About Makeup

Updated: Nov 16

How many times in your life do you have professional makeup done? Unless your career requires it, the typical adult uses this service for one occasion: weddings.

And while that's special and beautiful, that's not what I want your boudoir experience to be about.

I Want You to See You

I want you to look at your images and feel beautiful as you show up daily. I don't want you to think "wow, I look great when someone else does my hair and makeup." The idea is to build confidence in who you are daily, not on occasion.

Your boudoir images should feel like you, your everyday authentic self. The version of yourself you see in the mirror every morning, the one your partner sees, the one your friends recognize. That's the person I want to show you, because that person is absolutely stunning.

Why I Don't Offer Professional Makeup

I started my boudoir photography journey offering makeup- and I didn't love the results. My clients looked great, but they looked like they had professional makeup. It was polished and beautiful, but it wasn't quite them. I felt this took something away from the experience, so I made the decision to stop offering it.

I've found that when clients do their own makeup (or skip it entirely if that's more their style), the images feel more genuine, more intimate, and more like the incredible person they already are.

And my clients agree... I actually had one of my first clients ask to come back for a second session without any makeup! Both sessions are stunning, but the makeup free session feels more authentic.

If Professional Makeup Is Important to You

That said, I understand this is a personal choice. If you're certain you would like professional makeup for your session, I have a few suggestions of where you can book this service for yourself. Additionally, many other photographers in the area include makeup with their boudoir packages.

I encourage you to book the session that is right for you. If that includes makeup at the studio and you'd be more comfortable with another photographer, that's completely okay! I want you to have the experience that makes you feel most empowered and beautiful, even if that means we're not the right fit.
