I'm Samantha!
I grew up attached to my camera. Film and darkrooms will always have a special place in my heart, but digital is so convenient!
How did I get here?
Like a lot of people, I wasn't thrilled with how traditional portrait sessions turned out- you know, those stiff, awkward poses that just look like you’re holding your breath and trying not to move. These poses used to be necessary! It once took 15 seconds to create an image. Now? Fractions of a second. Moving around is allowed- and encouraged!
When my teen was approaching prom and graduation, I wanted something different for her. That's what sparked my deep dive into portrait photography.
Then I did something that changed everything: I booked my own boudoir session. I went in thinking it was a gift for my partner, but honestly? It was the best gift I ever gave myself. A magical healing space that gave me connection back to myself. A connection I didn't even know I was missing.
Another bonus? For the first time in any photo session, I wasn't left wondering what to do with my hands or whether I looked weird. I was guided through every single pose, and I still felt nervous and awkward. But the results? So worth it!
That experience showed me what photography could be- and now I get to create an even better experience for my clients.
Healing?
Yes. As a military veteran and current software engineer, I understand the struggles that come from working in a male dominated environment. My time in the military left some scars, if this resonates with you and you'd like to grab a no pressure coffee to chat about whether or not a session is right for you. It was the right decision for me, but it’s not right for everyone.
Please note: I'm not a mental health professional. I can only guide you from an understanding of therapeutic photography.
Engineer?
Yes! I just finished my M. Sc. in software engineering. I need to balance my time in the tech world with time in the art world. Your session is a welcome escape for me!
My determination to uplift women also reaches into my engineering world also where I mentor younger female engineers. I love watching them grow, and gain confidence, and ask for the promotions they deserve.
Random Facts:
I do not like the cold or winter, but I seem to find myself doing winter activities. I love swimming with the manatees (and the best time to do this is in the cold). I've also been ice climbing!
I live with my partner Mike, a teen, a dog, and two cats. We've both been married once and are not doing that again, so you might hear me refer to him as my 'partner' or 'not-fiance.'
I'd love to know what made you curious about boudoir or if you've had a session in the past what you thought about it.
